Gordon Hassig Park Service Project

  • 24 Oct 2020
  • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Gordon Hassig Park - Scotia at City Hall South Lot

The date has been set for our first Service Project.  The HWMC has undertaken the cleanup for the Gordon Hassig Park on Scotia next to the South Side City Hall Parking Lot.  Gordon was an active HWMC member many years ago and very involved in the city.  Below is the scope of work we are considering (to be followed by a friendly tournament of socially distanced shuffleboard):

  • Restacking paver stones encircling the fountain
  • Weeding throughout the park
  • Trimming boxwoods around fountain
  • Trimming encroaching, low-hanging, and dead branches from bushes and trees throughout the park (from fountain through shuffleboard court)
  • Trimming bushes on North and South sides of City hall to window ledge height
  • Trimming trees around city hall
  • Repairing/painting/replacing parts of benches near shuffle board court and picnic tables under gazebo (sand and stain/paint as needed)
  • Adding mulch to planting beds
  • Repair/repaint wooden park sign including replacing posts
  • Replacing damaged/missing shuffleboard equipment

Much like the kitchen/bath demos in past years, we are asking members with tools to bring appropriate construction and gardening tools with them.  Those without tools, please bring a desire to pitch in for the good of the community.

There is a plan to have an after even for members later in the day.  The plan for that gathering will be announced soon.  So, please save October 24, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until ??? for the project and the after event.  The rain date will be October 25, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

Please register to let the organizers know how much help to expect that day.
